A refined brown leather watch box specifically designed for this unique collector’s edition includes commemorative medal honoring Mario Andretti's epic career.
“I love wristwatches almost as much as I love racing. I bought the Rallye in the 1960s because I thought it was really cool. At the time, it was state-of-the-art and right on the cutting edge of modern. I got many compliments on it so I wore it often. I actually wore it daily for the entire month of May 1969 in preparation for the Indianapolis 500 – for practice, qualifying and during the race itself. It certainly became sentimental after I won that race, just like the helmet I wore that day and the fire suit. And the race car that carried me across the finish line ended up in the Smithsonian. All of these things became part of a day that changed my life.”
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mario Andretti’s historic win at Indianapolis in 1969, YEMA pays tribute to his legendary career with the reissue of the Yema Rallye chronograph that Andretti wore during the race. This collector’s edition limited to 1969 time pieces.

Mario Andretti is a racing icon, considered by many to be the greatest race car driver in the history of the sport. He was born in Italy and didn't emigrate to the United States until age fifteen. At 19, he began racing stock cars in Pennsylvania and that was the start of an illustrious career that saw the versatile driver compete and win in every discipline he entered – midgets, sprint cars, dirt track cars, stock cars, IndyCars, Formula One, Formula 5000 and sports cars.
His achievements became legendary: The world watched as he won the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500 and ultimately the Formula One World Championship, an unprecedented trifecta. No other race car driver has ever won all three titles. Mario took the checkered flag 111 times during his career – a career that stretched five decades and across six continents.
Today he is a successful businessman off the track, serving as spokesman, associate and friend to top executives around the world.
He has received hundreds of awards and recognitions. Among the most prestigious, he was named Driver of the Century, he was knighted by his native Italy, and the Library of Congress in Washington DC added him to its Living Legends list. And on the lighter side, but undoubtedly affirmation of his charisma and popularity, he was in the first Pixar Cars movie voicing himself and GQ Magazine named him one of "The 25 Coolest Athletes of All Time”.

Livraison super rapide!... Bravo!
For the timepiece: 5/5. Absolutely love the design - screams 1960's motorsport. Build quality seems top notch. Valjoux movement is solid, though those not familiar may be put off by its sometimes noisy and wobbly tendencies. Personally, the Valjoux 7753 and its quirks only add to the retro vibe of the piece. For the strap: 4/5. Strap quality is very good. The only strap available/offered as of this writing is the all black leather grand prix/rallye style with the large perforations. This watch was originally offered with two additional straps with red stitching that I feel would really complete the piece and make it stand out. Several promotional pictures with these straps are shown on the Yema website, however, these are no longer available. Given the piece is limited to 1969 units, it is disappointing not enough additional straps were produced for the entire production run. For the box and extras: 3/5. Leather wrapped box is adequate, though nothing special. Commemorative coin celebrating Mr. Andretti's unparalleled career adds nothing but decoration in the otherwise plain box. The time piece when introduced was offered with autographed vintage pictures of Mario and his original Rallye at Indianapolis 1969. These - like the additional straps - are no longer available/included. Overall: While the lack of the additional straps, extras, and plain box is rather disappointing given the limited nature of the watch, these are small points when taken in how well executed the actual piece is in person. For any fan of motorsport or the late 1960's vintage or even unique timepieces - this is a very cool watch! Many compliments have already been given and this will not be my last Yema!
